Dubai ...The Feeling of Loneliness

Dear Readers,

I hope a lot of people can read this and relate to this message.

Sometimes you felt very very happy and yet at the back of your mind you know there is something going on or there is something else will happen.

What do you call this feeling.

I though i can really enjoy the life here in Dubai, but there are times, the shadow of loneliness haunts you specially when you are just alone.

I love to go out here in Dubai but i dont want to because i still dont know the places to go, and its not so good to go out alone dont you think.

Anyways , the subject is borrowed times, i am happy here in dubai with my aunts but of course your happiness is extended if you have familiar faces with you , just like the arrival of my cousin , for a month i was happy that i can go out to places i never been before since i have someone to be with. I thought it would be for a long time but sadly it wasnt, my cousin has to go back to the Philippines . Now its me all alone again.

But not totally sad, since my brother will also come to Dubai , now there will be 2 of us again, perhaps this is the time to bond with my brother , since i become independent i never had close ties with my brother.

We never go out together, we never had good times together, we never shared a house for a long time.

Maybe this is the time to be together.

True as they say, loneliness is the only war you have to endure when you away from your country and your family.

The Atlantis...

Good day dear readers,

it has been so quite lately and i dont have much adventure in the past months, except for my trip to The Atlantis, its one of the best hotels and water adventures here in dubai, actually inside is a family park, a water adventure , a big aquarium and a mall for shopping, its located in the palm, if you check on the map its on the tip of the palm...its is very hard to imagine that such a structure were never there before and its just all water but now a huge and very luxurious hotel is standing tall in that area.

Last year , the atlantis was the huge success and one of the highlights in dubai with superstars like kylie minogue to open the event and attended by some A list such as Oprah winfrey , Michael Jordan etc.

The Sad Truth of Being an OFW

Hmmm.. I really don’t know how to star this topic, I was sitting in my office, nothing to do but to envy to the people back home since Christmas has passed and it is New Years Eve and its my first time to work Abroad.

The Sad Truth of Being Away from Home is really true. I keep on telling myself everything is OK, that I can handle this loneliness, that I can overcome this emotional disaster of my Life, but this warrior has to rest and be the boy my mother used to take care, cuddles and fed.

People of the Philippines…. I really miss home.

Spending the Holidays in a country that does not believe in Christmas was really odd, for 30 years I spend the holidays with Merry Making, spending with the Family and going out with Friends but here, I have spent it with my computer chatting with friends, in a cellphone trying to get through the busy line since everyone wants to connect. No matter how we celebrate it here with smile and laughter, there is a big part of our hearts and in our selves that we wish we were at home.

I never thought I would only sleep on Christmas Eve, when the clock strikes 12 midnight I checked outside the window, its as if nothing happens. Every night you see the same scenario , people walking on the streets, muslims drinking their chai / tea. Nothing…empty…Blank.

I live near the Airport and when we see airplanes ascending the sky…we will always say…lucky for them they are going home, but when we see airplanes to descend we say good luck….

Dubai is a very nice place …but…every nice place has its flaws also.

Filipinos is the 2nd largest population here in Dubai, next to the Indians and Pakistan. And 10-15% (not sure with the figures) are stranded in either Oman or Kish island in Iran. That is the sad truth that not all are lucky here in Dubai, as my auntie would always say
“This is a survival of the fittest” not a place for the weaklings.

Stories in Dubai were not always sugar coated lollipop, there are also rotten banana and spoiled bread that you will hear everywhere. I think every Country where we can find Filipinos has its ups and down, good and bad news one thing for sure, everyone has its own stories to tell be it happy or sad stories, it will be bought back to each ones home country to tell to their parents or loved ones for what kind of life they have to endure and sacrifice in order to give the family back home a good life. Millions of Filipinos go out the country …for what…why…because its own country cannot support this Filipino so this Filipino supports his country… so goes the saying Heroes of the Modern World. Did we really felt it????

Its been a while since my last post, quite busy lately, as you have known i have move to the United Arab Emirates or Dubai, coming here is such a huge risk to take but sometimes inorder for us to feel alive we have to take risks, who knows we might get to where we want to go.

A very big step for a very big dream now slowly comes to reality. There are truly lots of opportunities in dubai but finding them is another story. I have to endure the heat of the sun in its 50 degrees glory so hot no wonder every room here has aircondition, not a lot of trees an no hills for cover.

This is the price we have to pay in order to realize our dreams.

White Water Rafting experience in Cagayan De Oro was awesome...

The experience was a blast...adventure right from the very beginning of the journey with 17 km ride and 24 rapids much to the adore of the first time paddler of the advance category.

This is the time that you have to respect the natural wonders and what the river could possibly offer, there were times the river was still and suddenly you hear and feel the intensity of the river as it flow to what they call as the rapids.

Every inch of the experience was exciting , fun and full of adventure, the chupakaherms tribe experience it all, no exemptions...see our experience immortalized by these pictures..

CAMIGUIN …ISLAND “BORN OF FIRE”

Camiguin is a beautiful island in the south just above the Cagayan De Oro Channel. The island is famous for its sunken cemetery, but this gorgeous island has so much to offer , It has several volcanoes unmatched anywhere else in the Southeast Asia. Volcanic eruptions and land movements have created this spectacular island full of natural wonders and historical riches . let me count those beautiful sites that Camiguin island could offer:

The Sunken Cemetery:

Who would have thought that beneath those inviting beaches were tombs covered with stones pile underneath the waving sea, the place was so eerie that no one dared to swim besides the grave yard. A large white cross marks the remains of the cemetery that swept into the sea by the Old Vulcan Daan, from here it is a perfect place to watch and be glorious to the beautiful sunset.

The Old Ruins of San Roque Church, Belfry and Convent

The place is located in Guinpod, Bonbon Catarman, Camiguin. These are remnants of the eruptions of the old Vulcan daan , that wipes the illustrious town of Catarman, now it is a monument with thick century bricks and old walls, belfry and convent which stands reminiscent of the Spanish settlement, touch the stones and walls and you could feel the connection of the earth.

Katibawasan Falls

A beautiful , clear stream of water cascading 70 meters in to the rock pool . It’s (very) cold water provides a refreshing splash to all local and international tourists.

White Island – The Sand Bar

This white sand bar that pays respect to the famous view of the towering Mr. Hibok Hibok and Old Vulcan reflects the grandeur of the Province of Camiguin. You can reach the white island via small boat rented at P500.00 each with a maximum of 8 persons/boat.

Ardent Hot Spring

In the heart of the Province lies this therapeutic hot spring, it bubbles this mineral pool with water over 40C . Vapor rises from the heated water that run down from the release of the dormant Mr. HibokHibok. This spring is ideal to bath at night but we came in late afternoon so no sweat …whew what a good relief to retire for a day.

ChupaKaHerms...The Tribe

The tribe mates of Chupaka Herms once again gathered in synergy with one mission and that is to revisit the value embraced during our CFO training, the camaraderie, the friendship, the interdependence that have etched in the hearts of every tribe mate has once again reign supreme as we celebrate our 1^st year anniversary.

It all started at the break of dawn, with 14 castaways from different CFO Tribe Chupakaberks and Adelantar's "Ka Herms" merged together as ChupakaHerms with one mission in mind to practice the knowledge gained and to pay it forward to the community, where could we possibly celebrate this much awaited event but to 2 different destinations. Camiguin Island “born of fire’ and Cagayan De Oro City, “ kagay de oro ( river of gold) ” .

Time has traveled so fast, last year (May 23 – 25, 2007) we were very excited to meet our new tribe mates and very eager to impart a little bit of our personality, we have our first taste of the 10 tenets that we have constantly revisiting through our timely meeting and gathering. This year , it is our way of celebrating a strong rope that binds us together, still with the same mission but with a more and improved passion.

Four Ports to the Secluded island of Siquijor

Who would ever thought that I could set foot on this mysterious island, magical potions and eerie island of SIQUIJOR.

Such sleeping beauty lies on the southern part of Visayas, there are more to offer than those urban legend or should I say rural legend. The myths are overshadowed by the beauty of the island.

At first you would check on the streets of the island if there is really people selling those magical artifacts, you know what I mean, but sadly there’s none.

The trip was really exhausting as you have to dock on 3 ports before you set foot on the island, starting from the port of Cebu, to Bohol , to Dumaguete and finally in Siquijor.

The myths and urban legends that everybody was saying like mysterious creatures, out of this world potions and witchcraft are overshadowed by the beautiful scenery of the

Salagdoong Beach – this is the island most frequented beach which boasted the crystal clear water, the powdery white sands and high rock formation and favorable diving spots,

Century Old Balite Tree, it eerie outlined created by hundreds of roots and vines hanging down the tree believed to be enchanted as this is also located in the heart of the island with no house was near to the site,

Cantabon Cave – this being the most famous of siquijor’s over 45 caves, cantabon cave long , winding and difficult trek is both a challenge and a delight to any spelunker, Inside the cave runs a subterranean stream while beautiful stalactites and stalagmites abound the huge chamber, inside you could see rock formation such as the rice terraces, the bath tub and the final sight is the bedrock.

HUMAN EMOTIONS...THANK YOU

Human experiencing emotions is a great or an okay feeling for people who only said it, but when you’re actually experiencing such emotions specially if it’s on the negative side of the emotional aspect of your life , it’s really tough reall,y really tough

No matter how many people told you that it’s okay, hmmm I don’t think it’s enough.

In my case I think I have to grieve for a day or two then that’s it.

Time to move on.

I have my share of this human nature, the basic feeling of being alive. Good thing I experienced this and learned from it, there are really thing that are not meant for you and if you keep on pushing it, it would create a more sensational feeling of heartache.

Truly not everything is given to you, there are things for you and there are things for other people, after all there are so many of us to share the world greatest tangible or intangible treasure.

Good thing enough that you have people with you to console and to let you know the life is just like that, face that emotion and live with it, take it like a man and learned from it. Sometime we forget that we have something more than other people, we have less problem that the recent happening in China and Myanmar or the crisis face by people in Manila for their Electric Problems. Sometimes we thought our problems are bigger that the other problem.

For me, most of my problems are financial in nature, but that could be earned, that could found in your jobs or somewhere else, I don’t think that would be the reason to dwell more on such problems, being consumed by it or putting that particular problem in the pinnacle of your life. There are rich people who have all the money they could have and still ended up with a bullet in their head or jump to the highest building or hanged themselves and we are left with confusion and left us searching for answers like why they did what they did.

True enough that when it comes to such problems, we are all the same, no rich or poor, people but people that know how to survive such emotional spectacle.

THE MYSTICAL...TAAL VOLCANO , TAAL LAKE

Taal Lake , the most mysterious place i have ever been. I think this year this is the highlights of my travel, ever since i started to travel i always dreamt of Tagaytay and Taal Lake.

Much has been said about Taal Lake but you can only speak up and embrace its beauty once you are actually seeing it.

I was lucky to have seen this mysterious natural wonder, we were sent via Toastmaster International to go to tagaytay to attend its annual District Convention and this year this was held in Tagaytay in equally beautiful Taal Vista Lodge or should i say Hotel.

Just at the back of the hotel you can see at your hearts contentment the beauty of Taal Lake and the Volcano on the center of the Lake.

Of course who am I not to embrace such beauty..as you can witness thru my pics....

Competent Communicator / Competent Leader

Finally....I just got my norm as competent communicator / competent leader from Toastmasters International.

For those of you guys who haven't heard about TI, this is a speech club which trains us member to speak in public, construct our own speeches and has the opportunity to be evaluated by our peers.

It is fortunate for us employees of Aboitiz and Company that sponsors our enrollment in such club.
It has been a tremendous ride speaking in public. In my case, i have to deliver 10 basic speech which some of them are posted in my blog and aside from that i also have to deliver 2 advances speeches to complete my norm. Aboitiz Toastmaster Club has been receiving distinguish honors such as President Distinguish Award and the likes.

My inspiration in putting up this blog is my involvement in Toastmasters International, it gives me confidence in putting up a blog based on my travels, food, adventures and people that i encounter not just here in cebu city where i am born and raised but also to the places i've been to.

Today i am a competent communicator / competent leader ..tomorrow who knows i will become an advance communicator or even distinguish toastmaster.

Business and Pleasure in the City of Smiles - Bacolod

It's been a while since my last post...Hmmmm..heres goes my first adventure of the year 2008.

last Feb. 22 , 2008 i have the pleasure of visiting the city of smiles in bacolod city, negros occidental.

Here we attended the 1st Geographical Conference sponsored by PICPA - Negross Occidental, regarding updates of our chosen profession .

After that 3 grueling days of seminars and information overload...its time to check out the places of Bacolod City,, where to go but Mambukal Resort in far far away Murcia town checkin on the hot spring and the enormous smell, we trek to the wet grassland and stony street of the resort.

we even checked the ghostly mansion in balay negrense but unfortunately we cannt get it since its already late...check out pics for your pleasure.

One of the highlights of my 2007 was our trip to Tarlac and Hiking all the way to Mt. Pinatubo. Who would ever know i could go this very very far place and by foot only ...eat that.. hehehehe.

We have walked to stones, river , mountains for 5hrs back and forth...and we just stayed in the crater for like 1 hr. The adventure is not on the crater but the almost endless walk since all of us except the guide knew when will we arrive.

Last Sept 21, 2007 , our company celebrated our annual recognition night, this is the time where we recognized employee serving the company for a number of years, also those employee initiating changes, improvement that benefited our company, but that is not all , we need to dressed up to impress not just ourselves but we have to comply with the theme. and our theme for that evening was .

I was really happy last Sept. 2007, again i was assigned in Davao for a month of work. very excited to go to davao since i am going to see friends and familiar faces again.

as a start, a friend of mine Gina got married last Jan 20, 2007 and i promised to give her some gifts but dont have time and money to buy since i am here in cebu and she is in davao, then she got a baby ...so to make things short..i prepared to give gina a sto. nino from cebu as a memory for her and to her child since im from cebu, whats the best gift to give to a christian than the image of sto. nino de cebu.

Also i have the chance to met new friends and tag along to some of my old friends as they check the night life of davao city. we were in this cool videoke place called wonders of the world. check some of the pics

BENEFITS OF COFFEE

Fact:

ü Coffee is the second most traded product in the world after petroleum. World wide coffee production tips the scales at about 6 million metric tones.

ü A Belgian living in Guatemala invented the first instant coffee in 1906 and later immigrated to the United States. His name, ironically enough was George Washington.

ü Two hundred years ago, the Philippines was one of the world’s top coffee producers, Today we produce only .012% of the world’s supply.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I have a confession to make. I am an addict. A coffee addict that is.

I drank two to three cups of coffee everyday be it cold or hot as long as their caffeine in it. it surely makes my day. Coffee nowadays is like a continuous fad , 5 years ago, never would you see coffee shops on malls but now , Bo’s Coffee Club, Starbuck and Coffee Bean invades Cebu and have implanted into the minds of the Filipinos and Expats the importance of coffee in a more classy way.

Coffee contains caffeine, which acts as a stimulant, for this reason it is often consumed in the morning and during working hours. Students preparing for examinations with late night cram sessions use coffee to maintain their concentration. Many office workers take a coffee break when their energy is diminished. Of course you haven’t heard of the saying “milk break” or a “chocolate break”?

Did you know that there are multiple benefits of coffee? According to Dr. Jardine Davies R. Torno a renowned psychiatrist and host of QTV health program RX Men that:

Coffee is an important commodity that continues to play an important role in our society today. The Turks first adopted it as a drink, adding spices such as cinnamon and anise to the brew, and while much has been said about the ill effects of coffee in the past decades, more recent studies have linked coffee to a number of potential health benefits.

One of the most notable benefits recently reported about coffee is its high antioxidant content. Studies shows that coffee actually contains 1000 antioxidants and the brewing process add 300 more . This is four times more than the antioxidant content of green tea.

As we know, oxygen is essential to human life. With out it, we cannot survive. However, oxygen is also involved in toxic reactions that can damage the cells in out body. Most of the potentially harmful effects of oxygen are the formation of reactive oxygen species, amount which are the free radicals. Once formed, these unstable molecules start a chain reaction, like dominoes, and damage the cells in our body. Antioxidants are intimately involved in the prevention of cell damage caused by free radicals.

Numerous studies have also made to offset the negative image coffee once had on the health – conscious people.

Here are some other reported health benefits associated with coffee:

A study published in the European Journal of Neurology and the Canadian Study of Health and Aging found that those who drank more coffee were significantly less likely to develop Alzheimer’s Disease and regular coffee drinkers up to 80 % less likely to develop Parkinson’s disease.

According to a new study from the University of California which was published in the November issue of Diabetic Care, coffee reduces the risk of diabetes by over 60%. Another study at Vanderbilt University believes that a group of compounds present in coffee called quinines increases the capacity of the liver to use glucose, thus improving the blood sugar control in diabetics. It was also found that coffee contains large amounts of chlorogenic acid, tocopherols and magnesium, which have been shown to improve insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism. Research has also proved that aside from protecting us from disease, coffee has a positive functional impact on an array of human activities; In particular, a study published in Current Sports Media reports that caffeine in coffee improved performance and endurance during the prolonged exhaustive exercise. Coffee also decreases the risk of gout in men over age of 40, In a large study of over 45,000 men over a 12 year period, the risk for developing gout in men was inversely proportional with the amount of coffee consumed. And here more did you know that according to Brazilian study has determine that drinking coffee a few cups a day increases male fertility. Yes according to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the caffeine in coffee appears to increase the sperm motility, thus increasing the odds of pregnancy.

While there are benefits of coffee there are also risks involved if it’s not taken moderately,

Many coffee drinkers are familiars with the so called “ coffee jitters” nervous condition that occurs when one has had too much caffeine, not to mention the stains left in your teeth. Coffee can also cause insomnia in some while paradoxically it helps a few sleeps more soundly. Coffee can also increase blood pressure among those with high blood pressure, but follow up studies showed that coffee still decreased the risk of dying from heart disease in the aggregate. There are also gender-specific effects: in some PMS sufferers it increases the symptoms; it can reduce fertility in women, it may increase the risk of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.

Coffee is neither a miracle drink nor a cure for all diseases like the hype we get nowadays in drinking green teas and other health drinks on the market. Neither is it a villainous drink that can cause sickness to our body. In order to benefit from it, one should follow the simple but reliable rule that “everything should be taken in moderation”

Here are few of my adventures and my sports....badminton and wall climbing..

I've even prepared a speech about my sports badminton during our toastmaster meeting..hope you like it..or you could comment though.

My Passion My Sport - Badminton

Smash - that you hit the ball very hard while you are jumping. It’s not about jumping as high as you can though. It is better if you stand in front of the ball and only jump very quick when it is right before you.

Drop shot – this means when your either your near the net and softly land the ball just above the net or your at the back end of the court the slowly drop the shuttle cock on either side on just above the net

Those are the few techniques and moves in playing this sport. Badminton is the newest fad in the sports community nowadays, everywhere you go people are hook into this sport people go gaga for playing this sports, the sport is played with complete gears such as

1. Racket

2. Shuttle cock

3. Extra shirt

4. Water

But 4 years ago I would never looked into this sports, I thought it’s a lame sport; it thought it has no challenge.

I could always picture the sport as for women only, why because it’s just front and back, front and back and no net, no rules no challeng

Back in my previous work , a colleague always invite me to play badminton, but they always get a no from me because it thought it’s a waste of time.

But working here in this company and witnessing my first sport fest in 2005 with people really playing badminton I was amazed why are they playing this non challenging sport, even I have questioned why Yanyan and Tim ,unmarried then, got so interested on this sport, don’t they have more time spend in other things more important.

Then everything was changed when I have my first taste of playing badminton, then in Abellana sport complex or cebu city sport center.

I thought why not try Merven, Julian, Welda, Edgar, Alex, Zander and the rest of the guys were playing the sport so there must be something interesting in this sport.

Then I got my first game, I don’t even know a single techniques, my objective was to transfer the shuttle cock from one court to the other side of the court and that’s it, done and get this over with, but I was playing my first game, I was really sweating and sweating and sweating until I can already fold the tip of my shirt and sweat was dropping on my shirt and it still is my first game and in less than an hour, to make this even better I beat Joey and RJ in that game.

Then I realized I have been playing for almost 2 hours already and not just the tip of my shirt was already wet but the entire shirt, including on my hair, my wrist until up to my short the what behind the short, I was really soaking wet and to make things better for me I beat some of my colleagues ..I must be good in this sport, or I can be better, this has made me understand and encourage doing more.

Since then I have been playing this sports, I have played to different courts , I have played in Iligan where we have a hard time finding a court only to find out its on top of the public wet market, in general santos city where you will be amazed with the ostrich and the horses before you can get into the gym / court and in Singapore where we played in a non taraflex court and played with 60 years old men and not even won a single match.

I have met different kinds of people even different languages but the sport brought us together because we have shared the same passion for the sport.

I even volunteered to become the chairman of the Badminton games because of my passion for this sport.

Badminton is not just a physical activity but also a mental and social activity.

It is physical because you could burn 400-600 calories; this could lower your cholesterol level and reduced the risk of heart failure

It’s mental because its sharpens your mind and your agility your reflexes could react in a speed

And it’s social because you got to met different kinds of people and after the game there is chance to gather around and eat.

If you have interest in the sport , you could enjoy its benefits, aside from the health benefits its also rewarding specially if your picking up the fruits of your labor and in this instance I have converted my passion of this sport in to trophy.

Pit Senyor, that was the greetings of everyone during the celebration of the Fiesta of Senor Sto. Nino here in Cebu City last Jan 21, 2007. This was attended by 50 different contingents from all over the country, well more of them from Cebu. Sinulogs Festival (mardi gras) marks the 27th year festival and as you can see in the pictures this is very colorful and full of people on the street watching, dancing and shouting the Pit Senyor. Also the festival was attended by celebrities and politicians . check out the pictures of the festivities.

My trip to iloilo started in this Cebu Pacific Flight at 8am last Sept 3, 2006. We stayed in Biscocho House on one of the oldest hotel in Jaro St. It was more on work work and more work. Finanlly during the weekend my office mate and I decided to go to Boracay since its only 5 hours away..so off we go to the beautiful boracay althought in this picture you cant see if its really beautiful.

Recently , well last Oct 9, 2006 i got to visit again Davao City and this time my work bring me to SASA warf everyone knows what happen in that area, that is where the 2 bombing was occured in the late 1990's. Well anyway davao is great its is a huge city.

We stayed in Bagobo Hotel at P1005 a night good for 2 its quite expensive but everyone from work was there except for 2 people left in Cebu.

I also got a change to work with people from Davao and I enjoyed a lot . They treat me to the Venue where we dance and drink the night away, we also played badminton and sing our hearts our in Gimik .

That was really fun.

My Visit to General Santos

Last Sept 19, 2006 I was fortunate to visit and work in General Santos City, the tuna capital of the Philippines, our work was in Makar near the port eare of the city, not much was seen in the city but there were a lot of tuna around if you think if its cheap well your wrong it not that cheap, we then visit the fishport but sadly we cant get in since we only wore short and slipper its not allowed to next time you go to general santos fish port you should wear pants and rubber shoes although they will let you rent a boots when you get it .huhuhu..

General Santos's main road is huge, Pioneer Road and you can see poster of the great Pacman all over the city all his endorsement and in the billboard of every corner from suka to socks , vitamins and everything hehehehe.

In General Santos we stayed in T'Boli Hotel but later transferred to La Tierra Vierde much cheaper and much more wholesome

My Boracay

Finally i've been to boracay...my most dreamt adventure... after many years of waiting i have conquered the island.. so to speak.

this island is found on the tip of panay... (in caticlan) you have ride a ferry to go there and see the beautiful 3 kms of white sand beach.

though its just limited .,..its worth it.

The Foundation of Life

Life's experiences are the foundation of a person's life itself, we could compare them as bricks that accumulates and piles up to strenthen the foundation of our being.

Have your thought off and gathered your experiences lately? Do they hold as a foundation of your life? Are these foundations strong enough the could withstand stormy wheather and survive lifes greatest battles?

I know while you listen to my speech you would probably conclude that this one is a classic. A speech like everybody else, it talks about life's experiences. You probably have heard this a gazillion times but nevertheless i proudly want to share my story and tell you that i am one of those who have survived....for now.

When i graduated from high school I was very confident as well as very excited to go to college, like everybody else, I cant wait to choose my school, my course and meet my classmates from my alma mater or perhaps meet new ones from other schools. But sadly it didnt happen to me, simply because we cant afford it, I have asked my parent to send me to college but was replied with a big NO simply because we cant afford it.

But after a while I began to realize that I can find ways to make ends meet and true enough at the tender age of 18 I was already working while you were studying. I have worked as a production worker, a city hall contractual, a typist a salesman even becoming a dance instructor I've passed them all. I even got pimples from all over my face if you ask me.

Going to college always crossed my mind and I know that someday I will get there, but for now work is the top priority and have hide the thought for the meantime.

Sometimes i envy my friends when I see them carrying their bags, books and looking so intelligent. I keep on wishing that i could be in that situation , studying in a good College or University.

No matter how hard I worked my money is still not enough, college is getting farther and farther and for that time it remains a wish up until i heard Montery Homes was offering scholarship grants.

I said to myself this is an opportunity of a lifetime, I need to pass this so that I can go to college for free and i will only take care of my daily expenses ( like books and baon). I was exalted when i passed the examination and privileged to choose which university and course to take and the best this was i dont have to maintain a high grade so long as I pass all my subjects.

And so ladies and gentlement, fellow toastmaster and guest I am standing in front of you. Without my past experiences there will be no me, they are the ones that makes me grounded. If not of my determination and faith I wouldn't be here enjoying my life to the fullest, buying almost anything i want, doin almost everything I like, like playing badminton, collecting hats and travelling and of course enhancing my knowledge in this toastmaster club and deliver my 2nd basic speech.

I take pride in everything i do and if not for those experiences I will never learn to stand on my own. I could never be this independent, I could never have thought that we could nurture our wings so that we could fly, I could never have come this far.

ladies and gentlemen these are my experiences, the accumulated bricks of my life, the pillars of my being and the essence of my existence.

HSBC Badminton Tournament

Last Saturday June 24, 2006 we were invited by HSBC to play in their 1st badminton tournament, this was participated by different companies in Cebu City.

It was a full day event from 9 to 5 pm, the tournament was in Metro Sports in Lahug,

The Aboitiz Badminton Squad composed of Timothy Abay, Yanyan Saluria , Luz Salameda and Me. We played in the mens doubles and womens doubles and luckily we emerged as the champions in these categories.

First stop Ilocos Sur...who could forget the enchanting spanish creation of vigan...this is M. Crisologo St. all here are antique at least the structure..

Day 2 adventure starts in this old light house or cape bojeador in burgos ilocos norte what a sight ha.....

Next stop is the wind farm in bangui bay still in ilocos norte, what a beautiful site this one...15 of those aligned in the beach embracing the winds of the north...i thought my adventure was just to look at them but i was wrong i was inside in one of those 23 storey wind turbines climbing and reached up on top ..look for yourselve check out my pictures ..it was scary but awesome...the sight was perfect and the weather was cooperating

Day 2 adventures ends in pagudpud town the last town of ilocos norte in saud beach resort, relaxing after the climb hehehehe..bring a lot of cash coz its very expensive ( mahal kaayo )

The Adventure starts in this car.... this is the carthe brought us from manila to as far as pagudpud town in ilocos norte

At the back is the back draft of tobocco plantation somewhere in la union ( i guess?). check out the bridge notice the different arc on the 3rd that area was washed out from a flash flood happened in this are sometime in the 90's.

The other picture is Fort Ilocandia...the only hotel (huge) in Ilocos Norte they have a huge swimming pool and a lot of activities to enjoy..

On top is the laoag city and paoay church one of the older church in the Philippines built in 1593 imagine that ,,,,

This is little malacanang of the north, this was where all the party was done on all those years under the former dictator, this area was the cradle of political and social events of the north of course this is what they call the marcos land.

Below was in Osmena Peak, this was during my office mates adventure to the south of course sponsored by our Boss then...and by our department, this was an 2 1/2 hours walk and climb fromMantalongon town where we parked the car, we stayed in osmena peak for 1 night with all the rain and little storm with us during that night and all the snooring afterwards hehehehe buko na guys...it was all fun... see our little camp from afar, we are the ones on top of everyone, if you love the mountains , there are a lot of them here and this is one of them

Davao / Samal Island

This is samal island in davao city with some of my friends in the south, this is a 3 day adventure that starts in cagayan de oro, took a bus a 11 hrs bus from cdo to davao city, then on the next day went to maragusan falls, aguacan cold spring, banana plantation in davao del sur and ends in samal island. sadly i dont have pictures in maragusan falls since it was with them ( my friends ) but i have some picture in little baguio where the philippine eagle resides but this will be posted that soonest i cant find them.

in June and in the Philippines , June is wet season so i have experienced bagyo in baguio, signal no. 1 i think , this was with a friend derick from cebu also but already living in cavite check out the park that is so wet. This is Bohol a neighbor of Cebu...one of the greatest and facinating sites in bohol is the Chocolate Hills. I dont know why but these hills turned brown during summer and during this time its almost summer that it why on the back ground you can see some of them turning brown already. Also on top is one of the oldest church the Baclayon Church.
